Missionaries in Tiawan asked to give salaries back to bethel...one resigned!!
by Witness 007 ina friend from australia's first "ministerial training school" was excited to go to asia as a missionary....only to return in disgrace!!!
the government lets them stay if they become "english teachers" and except a part-time job for a salary {which is generous}.
bethel told him that the money he earns on the side while a missionary belongs to them!!

Do these people get any vacation at all? If they have to work for family for a whole month and are bethelites for the rest of the year when do they just get to chill? How long have they been at this? Sounds like it sucks.

I felt the same as you for a long time Wannaexit, especially since my family was such a model JW family in the circuit -you know - huge family 'everyone in the truth.' Who in their right mind would want to reck their family's image and cause such a blow to their parents pride (especially when you love that parent and they are especially loving themselves)?
I then felt more like you do Cage so I came out to my family a few years ago and cut ties with the JWs. Great for you that you set up reasonable boundaries with your folks. It is a waste of a short life to be in a cult but believe me it can be just as much of a waste of a life to be on the outside of one. It all depends on how one chooses to spend their time on the inside or out. Each person gets to weigh the pros and cons of leaving in their own personal circumstances and decide what's best for them at that point in time. It's a waste of emotional energy to get that wrapped up in or frustrated with other peoples decisions.

Haha CA! Following the political debates between the candidates, in the media, and here on JWN was stressing me too for a while... everything was just way too negative. Just this week I decided to focus more on the positives from both sides and what do ya know strangly enough Romney did start to grow on me (warts and all). I'm at the point where I'll be happy with either outcome and I know about half of America will be as well. But sssshhh! I can't tell anyone I know in real life. I'm surrounded by people that are so blue they're practically black.

Welcome back! nice to see you here again.
After reading some of the political threads here these last few days I'd say America is in for a win-win situation next Tuesday. Romney has grown on me

Good luck on the journey CF! Thanks for coming back to clarify.
Cofty- I've enjoyed your comments on this thread and many others and I'm amazed at your patience with and tolerance for others whose opinions differ from yours and who may not be as well informed as you are.

Why is this reaction so hard to understand?
The question was entirely rhetorical. I think the JW reaction expressed in the email has much more to do with the predicament most believers find themselves in when bad things happen than anything having to do with the more cult like characteristics of JWs. When shit goes down a believer has to search high and low for something good to give god credit for. It's not just cult members who are guilty of this.

Why is this reaction so hard to understand?
Don't you guys remember from your dub days (or from being Christians) 'every good gift and every perfect present comes from your father above.' Bad things are the fault of the devil, the world or 'time and unforeseen occurances.'
The logic is simple; give god credit for good and blame someone else for everything else.

Was sd-7 a doormat since 7/31/2009 or did he/it/you undergo a change recently? Why was this hidden for so long if the former and why the change if the latter? Is this self discovery, transformation, or transubstantiation?
